5th Grade Teacher
Victoria Newsom Bio
Welcome, Wilmeth Longhorns! My name is Victoria Newsom and I am privileged to be a 5th-grade teacher at Wilmeth Elementary. I have a passion for all things Language Arts – so get ready to use those awesome writing and reading skills in my classroom. I absolutely love all things ELAR, and I love sharing that passion with my students. My other great love is history. So when I’m not at school, or hanging out with my kids, or running (yep, I’m a runner), you will normally find me doing research on historical subjects.
This will be my 10th year of teaching and coaching at Wilmeth Elementary. For three years, I was a coach in the gym and then became a classroom teacher, and it has been an amazing experience. I received my bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana (Go Demons!) and my master’s degree in education from Baylor University (Sic ‘Em Bears!).
I was born in London, England, and came to the United States on an athletic scholarship to play tennis.
I married my college sweetheart Dr. Thomas Newsom, who works in college administration and we have three awesome kids – who were all Wilmeth Longhorns. Will is a senior at Austin College in Sherman, while Katie and John are 12th graders at McKinney North High School this year. So grab your awesome brains, and get ready for an amazing year of learning!
