Melissa Berry Bio

Melissa was born and lived more than half of her life in Alaska. She holds a B.S. degree in Engineering, with minors in math and chemistry. She worked as an engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration for 18 years in Alaska, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Washington, D.C. In 1997, Melissa left the FAA to pursue her passion to teach elementary school. She became certified in 1999 and taught students with learning disabilities for 5 years before moving to a general education classroom. Melissa has spent the last several years moving between 4th and 5th grades, and currently teaches 5th grade math and science. Her favorite part of teaching is getting to know students and keeping up with them over the years. She has a 27-year-old daughter and 3 dogs. Her favorite pastimes are reading, being outside, textile crafting, and computer programming.  She is currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Library and Information Studies through Texas Woman’s University.
