Meet the Staff

Allie Long, Dean of Students

Allie LongAllie Long brings 19 years in education as Dean of Students to Serenity High School. She began her teaching career in 2002 in Elk Grove, California where she served 12 years as an elementary school teacher, a middle school Activities Director/Student Leadership Teacher, and a high school English Teacher. Allie spent the next 7 years as a teacher and administrator for adult schools in correctional education in California before becoming the Dean of Students at Serenity High School.

Allie is passionate about serving students, parents, and the recovery community. She not only believes that every student can thrive, but that they can become successful contributing leaders in the community. Allie believes in equipping students with the skills and tools they need to face the many challenges life brings. She has an incredible team of educators and support staff, an active advisory board, and a strong school district that drives and supports Serenity’s vision and goals.

I enjoy working collaboratively with community and school members to continue the path to high achievement while maintaining a safe learning environment focused on recovery. Gail Kuykendall, Administrative Assistant

Gail joined the Serenity team in the 2003-2004 school year. She serves as Administrative Assistant to Allie Long in a part-time position. She retired from Serenity in 2012 but returned in a part-time position in 2013. Gail and Daniella Munoz are cohorts as the voice of Serenity and the first person you meet when you come through the door. They have a special bond with the students.

Gail lives in Keller with her husband Curtis. They have two daughters and three grandchildren. She has worked as Administrative Assistant to a school superintendent (Ore City ISD), Director of Alternative Education and Special Programs (Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD), Director of Human Resources (McKinney ISD), and to the Headmaster of the McKinney Christian Academy.

Gail says, “Working with the staff and students at Serenity is full of fun and challenges. We are like a large family. I consider the students here as being “my other kids.”

Daniella Munoz, Administrative Assistant

Daniella joined the Serenity team in the 2017-2018 school year. She serves as an Administrative Assistant. Daniella is a graduate of McKinney Boyd High School, and is currently a student at Texas Tech University pursuing a degree in Human Resource Development.

“I am thrilled to be a part of Serenity’s unique education environment. I look forward to learning and growing both personally and professionally, as I assist the families in supporting their sons and daughters in recovery complete their high school education.”

Allison Vance, English and Tech Apps Teacher

Mrs. Vance has taught for the past eleven years in Texas, and this is her first year teaching in McKinney ISD. Reading, writing and word studies truly capture her heart; she truly loves teaching English. In addition, Mrs. Vance has taught Video Production, Broadcast Journalism and other Technology Art courses. Art holds a special place in her heart, too. Although Mrs. Vance has spent most of her life in Texas, she did live in Utah for a few years. She loves Texas but often misses the mountains and heavy snowfalls.

Mrs. Vance graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marriage, Family and Human Development. She also enjoyed obtaining a Graduate degree in English from National University; her favorite course was Japanese Poetry. While not teaching, Mrs. Vance spends time with her husband and/or other family – including many of her 29 nieces and nephews as she can.

Richard Brown, Math Teacher

Richard Brown has been with McKinney ISD for the past 12 years. This is his first year teaching at Serenity High. Mr. Brown’s specialty is math, but he has a love for all subjects. Mr. Brown was an Army brat growing up. He was born in Germany and lived in several different states as his father travelled from assignment to assignment. This is one reason he loves to travel and visit new places. He has been to four continents and many, many countries.

Mr. Brown graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Master’s of Business Administration. After a career in business, Mr. Brown switched careers and became a certified teacher to continue a life-long love of learning and fulfill his passion to teach. Mr. Brown has a loving wife and daughter along with two dogs, Baby and Matilda.
