Michelle Houston Bio
Hello! My name is Michelle Houston and I am excited to be an Instructional Coach at Vega Elementary! I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Minor in Social Work. Upon graduating, I went to work as a Social Worker for adults with cognitive disabilities. Feeling like I was still searching for something fulfilling that would combine my interest in social work with my love of children, I decided to go back to school at The University of Georgia at Athens to pursue a teaching credential in Special Education. After graduating, I began working for a school district in Georgia where I was a Lead Special Education for 9 years. I have worked with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, cognitive disabilities, behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, and typically developing students on the elementary and secondary levels.
I am a life long learner and love to read! I enjoy ongoing professional development opportunities at workshops and in-services provided by a variety of agencies. I also am pursuing my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.
My teaching philosophy is based on respecting differences, tapping into talents, and sharing my love for learning with my students. I believe we all have something to contribute and I learn so much from students and colleagues each day. It is my intent to create a feeling of teamwork and community, celebrate students’ successes, and promote academic excellence at Vega Elementary.
